Andrew Mezei is based in Melbourne. The son of Hungarian refugees, his parents ran a leather-goods workshop steeped in a culture of fine European craftsmanship. That workshop tradition is reflected in Andrew’s painting; he grinds his own colours and employs techniques from the Dutch Baroque period to create luminous paintings. Fine detail is used to reflect our connectedness to the world; a metaphysical model of consciousness.
Mezei has paintings in prominent collections, such as the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, the Geelong Gallery, and the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale, Victoria.
